Tracking groups in Mailchimp

  1. I am offering some freebies to listeners of a podcast I was on, and I was trying to figure out if there was a way to opt them in to my main newsletter list while still keeping track of them/where they came from.

I did some asking around, and I got the suggestion to create a new list, and then later export that list, save it, and import those people into my main list, into a descriptive group. I think I can do this. :)

I'm also trying to save some notes for myself and links to help on Mailchimp for future reference. When I don't create these often I forget how to do it.

Do any of you have different groups in your mailing list?
  2. I have kept things simple and just have one mailing list.

Though I should probably do the same as you and create groups. For example, have a group for people who always open my emails and click links, another for people who open emails and don't click links, and the final group for people that do not even open the emails.
